TRIBUNNEWS.COM - Presiden Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Cheryl Boone Isaacs sebenarnya mengharapkan agar yang masuk dalam nominasi penerima Oscar lebih beragam.

Sebanyak 20 bintang yang bersaing untuk kategori pemeran utama semuanya berkulit putih serta tak ada unggulan perempuan untuk kategori sutradara dan penulis naskah terbaik. Terkait hal ini, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences menghadapi kritikan keras.

Cheryl Boone Isaacs mengatakan, Academy of Motion Picture Arts berkomitmen mencari keragaman suara dan pendapat. ”Selama dua tahun terakhir, kami telah melakukan langkah yang lebih besar dari yang kita buat sebelumnya, menjadi lebih beragam dan menjadi organisasi yang inklusif,” tuturnya.

Isaacs berharap ada keberagaman di antara para nomine. Setelah para unggulan penghargaan Oscar diumumkan, banyak orang kemudian memprotes melalui media sosial dengan menggunakan tagar ”OscarsSoWhite”.

Ada begitu banyak perhatian yang fokus pada Martin Luther King biopic, Selma, dengan sutradara Ava DuVernay dan bintang David Oyelowo yang tak masuk nominasi. Aktor Selma lainnya, Wendell Pierce, menyatakan, sangat mengagetkan jika Oyelowo tak masuk nominasi.

Menurut Isaacs, Selma masuk dalam nominasi Best Picture, yang dipilih oleh anggota Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Isaacs mengatakan, ketika Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences berupaya agar nominasi lebih beragam, industri film secara lebih luas juga diharapkan melakukan hal yang sama. ”Kami berharap industri film juga lebih beragam dan inklusif,” ujarnya.

Lebih dari 7.000 anggota Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences memilih pemenang. Film Birdman dan The Grand Budapest Hotel bersaing ketat dengan masing-masing dicalonkan mendapatkan sembilan penghargaan. (Elok Diah)
