Simple Past Tense: Pengertian, Rumus Past Tense, dan Contoh Soal

Simple Past Tense verbal menggunakan kata kerja bentuk kedua (Verb 2). Untuk kalimat verbal menggunakan did/didn't, maka bentuk kata kerja selanjutnya menggunakan verb 1.

Rumus:

• (+) S + V2 + O
• (-) S + didn’t + V1 + O
• (?) Did + S + V1 + O?

Contoh 1:

• (+) We enjoyed the holiday yesterday.
• (-) We didn’t enjoy the holiday yesterday.
• (?) Did we enjoy the holiday yesterday?

Contoh 2:

• (+) Chris went to Jogja last week.
• (-) Chris didn’t go to Jogja last week.
• (?) Did Chris go to Jogja last week?

Simple Past Tense (Non-verbal)

Simple Past Tense non verbal menggunakan to be bentuk kedua (was/were), sehingga tidak menggunakan kata kerja bentuk kedua (Verb 2). 

Rumus:

• (+) + S + was/were + Adj/Adv/N
• (-) S + wasn’t/weren’t + Adj/Adv/N
• (?) Was/Were + S + Adj/Adv/N?

Contoh 1:

• (+) They were at the theatre last night.
• (-) They weren’t at the theatre last night.
• (?) Were they at the theatre last night?

Contoh 2:

• (+) She was at the supermarket.
• (-) She wasn’t at the supermarket.
• (?) Was she at the supermarket?

2. The film _ (not/be) very good, but I _ it very much. (enjoy)
3. I __ (know) Sarah was very busy, so I __ her. (not/disturb)
